Sheryl is a Bloomington, IN native born and raised just a stone’s throw from where REN-ISAC is now centrally officed. At an early age, she got hooked on computing and technology thanks to her father’s tradition of bringing home non-functional, multi-colored punch cards for her mother to use in craft projects.
Sheryl landed her first IT gig while completing undergraduate coursework at Indiana University. As an undergrad, she practiced and taught martial arts for a university club, forging a security-minded approach that, in combination with her technology work, inspired her move to information security. She joined the REN-ISAC team as a Lead Security Analyst in 2017. REN-ISAC members see her work in the Daily Watch Report and may recognize her voice from hearing her host TechBursts.
For those fluent in StrengthsFinder, Sheryl’s strength styles are Individualization, Learner, Deliberative, Strategic, and Intellection. When not thwarting the bad guys, Sheryl is a founding member of a local ham radio club (Southern Indiana Amateur Radio Association); enjoys cooking and sharing recipes on social media; loves hanging out with her dogs and cats; plays a mean game of Euchre, and can sometimes be found off the beaten path in her 4x4 “WonderTruck.”
